The miracles of Jesus are the supernatural events attributed to Jesus Christ during his earthly life, recorded in the Gospels. These miracles can be classified into four groups: healings, exorcisms, resurrections, and control over nature. The exact number of miracles depends on how they are counted. For example, in the miracle of Jairus’s daughter, a woman is healed and a girl is raised from the dead, but both events are narrated in the same passages of the Gospels, and usually together. Symbolic details, such as the girl being twelve years old and the woman having been ill for twelve years, have been subject to various interpretations. These miracles provoked the indignation of the scribes and teachers of the law. Therefore, the scribes, Pharisees, and other contemporaries attributed them to a conspiracy with Beelzebub. Jesus vigorously defended himself against these accusations. According to the Gospel accounts, Jesus not only had the power to cast out demons, but he also passed that power on to his followers. There is even mention of a man who, though not a follower of Jesus, successfully cast out demons in his name. According to Matthew 11:20-24, Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum are the cities where Jesus performed most of his miracles, because the people there had not yet repented of their sins. According to John 14:10-14, Jesus asks the apostles to believe because of these works, since it is the Father (God) who performs them through him. He also tells them that whatever they ask the Father in his name, he will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
